Please do continue to share! I need to know I'm not the only one thinking this is a good idea. :)

I am fascinated (understatement) by your story of the polar bears. I have been thinking so much recently about myself as a mom, and many SAHMs in general - how the depression seems to sneak in, even when we have the "easy life" and should feel "so fulfilled". I have been thinking that it has something to do with the fact that what used to be essential tasks for the mom are now much more easily and sometimes more cheaply done by other things - dishwashers, washing machines, convenience foods, clothes at stores vs. homemade, etc.

While I'm not advocating giving all that up, I think the advent of these new things has made our homemaking jobs *seem* more meaningless. Some of us are reduced to moving clutter around all day, lol! (that would be me - but as you know it's getting better every day!)

I can't resist reading a post with that title! The "Simplify Your Life" book that I have is not the one in this post. I guess there are many of them out there. I too have been thinking about the upcoming gift giving season. There has got to be a better way. I've heard that members of my family are starting to rethink it too. I agree with Amy. Keep sharing about your journey!

Ariane from Neat Living

Thanks you so much for sharing your journey and for linking to my blog! You are so right, my blog is not about being neat...it's about neat ideas for living a simple, organized life.

I agree with you that it's kinda ridiculous how complicated it can be to try to live simply! It truly is a lifelong endeavor. Especially in a world where stuff and paper enters our lives relentlessly.

Like never before, each person and family has to really think about what they buy, what they keep, and why.

Today, the only way to stay in charge of our lives is to take charge of the stuff in it. I recommend that everyone develop their own set of "Neat Living Policies" or rules to manage their stuff by! Every family needs different rules, but one example is the one out rule - "If you get a new book, DVD, new clothing, etc. donate one of the same item."

And you are so right about the organizing tools! Most of the time I don't have client's buy anything! Once we declutter, we can usually creatively repurpose items from all over the house. It just takes looking at your stuff with fresh eyes.

Thanks again for linking to me! I wish you much success in your journey to a simpler life!

Ariane

I stumbled upon this site as I was in the process of doing some online research. You made such a good point - simplifying is really switching priorities.

There isn't much that I can do, but I can share my bread with you, and sometimes share a sorrow, too.. There isn't much that I can do, but I can sit an hour with you, and I can share a joke with you, and sometimes share reverses, too.. There isn't much that I can do, but I can share my flowers with you, and I can share my books with you, and sometimes share your burdens, too.. There isn't much that I can do, but I can share my songs with you, and I can share my mirth with you, and sometimes come and laugh with you.. There isn't much that I can do, but I can share my hopes with you, and I can share my fears with you, and sometimes shed some tears with you.. There isn't much that I can do, but I can share my friends with you, and I can share my life with you, and oftentimes share a prayer with you.
