Oh I love this! Am so doing the folder/crate thing for my younger two this coming year. Also love the personalized binder etc. I am looking at that busyteacherscafe.com as I write. Good, realistic stuff! Keep it comin! Even us old veterans need this kind of reminder.

The personalized binders sound like a really neat idea. Do you set up each student's binder weekly then? I usually plan out each student's work on Sunday evening. Sounds like this would be a bit more work on Sunday, but easier throughout the week.

I like these ideas. I would like to know how the implementation of placing the weekly work into the binder happens. Is that something you do on the weekend? Or are the children doing it?

Sandy

I set up a file crate system to use this year similar (sp?) to the one used by Dawn at By Sun and Candlelight. I love the way you've incorporated the binder with a personalized crate for each child. Love. It. As with Dawn's system, I don't know why I didn't think of this before. What a great idea. My kids are always asking for their own work too. I think this is a great way to organize and keep track of our do-it-yourself curriculum. And I love that the books, pencils, art supplies, etc. are all in the same box. Once in a while I could put little treats in there for them like bookmarks or snacks. The possibilities are endless. I'm nearly giddy! Organizing makes me happy. THANK YOU for posting.

I love the binders, we went to them a few years ago and it has been a wonderful tool. I like your crate file idea too, might have to think about that one.

I'm gonna have to come back and look at this when it's not 1 a.m. and I still have homeschool stuff spread all over our bed. ugh! :)

Monique

You are a genius! I've been doing something similar but you've put it all together for me in a nice neat package! Love It! This is just what I've been looking for! Thank you.

That's wonderful! great ideas

Mona

Thank you for the great ideas when I need them. It will really speed up the preparations for the next year and keep all the stuff organized.
And you are so right with not keeping up with detailed schedule - I've failed too many times :(
Thanks a loooooot!

After 17 tedious but devoted years of homeschool, I found it was becoming a burden? Why? We fell into the rigid, formal, overload where I was just a constant blurred brain trying to maintain. I came to the net and googled, help for overloaded homeschooled Mothers. I found this. What a simple and rich way to get it all done. Bless you for taking the time to help others, who don't have the time to figure everything out.
Mother of 6 who is going to simplify her home, greatly appreciates your time.
Thanks. Meredith

Oh, and one more thing, I should have added. I have always thought, we are running a HOME not a school, so it should be family-warm and family-friendly with parent friendly up in lights! - Coming from a heavily intellectual family and being the only creative bone in that historical body, I felt pushed by the supercilious comments regarding homeschoolers not being intellectual if they are trained by a mere Mother... rigorous routines and overload of books that drain the Mother do just that...they take the joy away from the home and make it a correctional facility instead of a happy learning environment. How many schedules I have written and re-written only to feel a failure when they just CANNOT be followed strictly. To see others here feeling the same is such a release. Thanks again.

I have a question about your crate system...do you find that the contents of the crates hold up over time? Do the books get kinda chewed up on the corners from resting in the crate itself? I was thinking of doing this but I was afraid of what would happen...I have toddlers, therefore I have concerns...;)
What are you doing now??
Just thought I would ask another mom that has to plan for the success of many. I am just not totally satisfied with how things are working now. Maybe I need to work harder at my concept of using binders...sigh! indecisive am I.
