Garmisch-Partenkirchen is an ancient German city. (Two separate cities at one time) The main street actually follows the original Roman Road and is mentioned in history as early as 15AD.
It is famous for these iconic frescoes and alpine architecture, which I clearly cannot get enough of.
That's it. I need some cocoa asap.
Many scenes depict stories from the lives of the saints or regional rulers.
The Madonna, St. George, and St. Michael are frequently pictured. It is not uncommon to see crucifixes on the outer walls of homes even in our part of Germany.
Up next on your tour, some serious castle hopping.
Thank you!

I love it when you share these photos. Though there are many beautiful things in Japanese culture, the scenery often leaves much to be desired - unless one really gets out in the country-side. In the Tokyo area everything was burnt down during WWII, then built back haphazardly as money allowed. While there are many interesting things to find, and pockets of beauty, the overall picture is not often aesthetically pleasing.
I am of German Irish decent, but always felt more of an attraction to the Celtic side - maybe because my maiden name is about as Irish as you can get. Seeing your photos makes me want to explore the German side a bit more. :o)
Thanks for sharing!

I am so enjoying your photos! Brings back wonderful memories of the summer I spent in Germany at age 14. Mostly Kaiserslautern, but we traveled some...Munich, Koln, Rothenburg, Heidelberg. I loved Munich the best---the sour-cherry soft ice cream especially! LOL. But also the scenery, the fresh air, the food, the churches.
What fun for all of you!
